Family Housing Resources awards $10,000 to Sister Jose Women’s Center

Family Housing Resources, Inc. (“FHR”), a support organization of the Industrial Development Authority of the County of Pima (the “Pima IDA”), whose mission is to create lasting solutions to help individuals and families reach financial freedom through housing support, education, and partnership. 

The FHR Cares Community Investment Fund was established in 2015 by Family Housing Resources, Inc., and FHR Cares, Inc. both 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organizations in Pima County, AZ. to further support FHR’s mission through offering funding support to partner organizations doing similar mission driven work in the community. In 2019 FHR Cares has awarded $475,000 in gifts to better Pima County and foster lasting community partnerships.

FHRCares awarded Sister Jose Women’s Center with a $10,000 grant for pumps and irrigation systems for a garden designed to be both therapeutic and educational for residents at its shelter. As it can be difficult to find funding for capital projects FHR Cares believes in supporting all needs of organizations that are doing profoundly important work like Sister Jose Women’s Center. This gift allowed for the completion of a fully functioning cistern in the organizations garden benefiting the organization and it’s residents alike.

About Sister Jose Women’s Center: Sister Jose Women’s Center is a safe haven for Tucson women experiencing homelessness and is often the first step to recovery from homelessness. A Tucson-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2009. Their low-barrier day center provides unaccompanied homeless women with a stable and safe environment to recuperate from the daily struggle of homelessness and extreme poverty. https://www.srjosewomensshelter.org/

FHR cares awarded Start Up Tucson with $25,000 its Startup Fundamental Series which offers education all types of entrepreneurs and startups at every stage of their growth. With a shared focus on economic development and low-cost, low-barrier access to resources, FHR Cares’ support of Startup Tucson’s educational offerings ensures service to diverse communities with a focus on increasing the types of entrepreneurs in Tucson.  

The Startup Fundamental Series is part of the greater Startup educational offerings specifically focused on business development.  The “Fundamental Series” of Courses provide a rich toolbox of skills for every entrepreneur, regardless of stage or industry and include opportunities such as Market Research & Customer Discovery, Pitching Your Company and Lean Methodology Deep Dive.

About Start Up Tucson: Startup Tucson provides comprehensive wrap-around services for entrepreneurs that include Discovery & Networking Events, Educational Programming, and a free membership hub called The Startup Tucson Network. Family Housing Resources grants Local First AZ $35,000 for the Fuerza Local Business Incubator

FHR Cares awarded Local First AZ with $35,000 for their Fuerza Local Business Accelerator program a six-month program designed to teach underserved micro-entrepreneurs important basics for financial literacy and business development. Participants attend weekly classes on a variety of topics including marketing, business planning, cash flow management, and many more. Participants also gain critically important financial literacy through participating in a lending circle, which requires them to make on-time payments every month they are in the program.

Local First Arizona Foundation launched the Fuerza Local Business Accelerator in 2013 as a direct response to the influx of predatory lenders that target low- income Latinos who often lack financial literacy and access to resources that help build thriving businesses. “FHR Care’s generosity is helping advance Arizona’s economy and increase prosperity for all. FHR Cares awarded Step Up to Justice (SU2J) with $25,000 to further their work of providing free civil legal services to the most vulnerable people in our community ensuring access to justice is a reality for all Pima County residents.
