Family Housing Resources, Inc. (FHR), a support organization of the Industrial Development Authority of the County of Pima (Pima IDA) is pleased to announce the award of two $50,000 grants.
The grants were awarded to Habitat for Humanity Tucson (HFHT) and the Southern Arizona Aids Foundation (SAAF). Both organizations will use the funds to repair and upgrade residential property allocated to Tucson’s low-income households in the community.
HFHT will use the funds to repair homes with the goal of reducing energy costs. The organization partners with seniors, the disabled, U.S. Veterans, multi-generational households and single-parent families in need of home repair.
SAAF will use the grant to replace 12 evaporative coolers at their Glenn Apartments with modern and energy-efficient HVAC units. In all, SAAF manages seven apartment complexes providing shelter and services to persons experiencing homelessness living with HIV/AIDS.
“We could not be more pleased to provide support to Habitat for Humanity Tucson and the Southern Arizona Aids Foundation to help these exceptional organizations improve the housing and quality of life for those they serve,” FHR Board Member Steve Russo said. “This is in keeping with our mission to help worthy organizations provide safe and affordable housing in Pima County.”
“Making these critical home repairs benefits the families, the neighborhood, and the entire community,” said HFHT Executive Director T. Van Hook. “The repairs will ensure families live in safe and well-maintained homes. These upgrades also help restore the homeowners’ dignity and pride of ownership. The support of FHR means so much to our organization and those we serve,” added Van Hook.
SAAF Executive Director Wendell Hicks said, “this grant makes a huge difference in the lives of our tenants at the Glenn Apartments. The installation of the new HVAC units means an end to water leaks and damage occurring with the old evaporative coolers. It also means elderly clients with compromised immune systems and health issues will not suffer additionally during Tucson’s sweltering summer. We are very grateful for FHR’s generosity.” Hicks said.

Habitat Tucson Home Repair Program partners with eligible limited-income home owners in need of critical home repairs. This program is designed to provide home owners with services to improve the condition and safety of owner-occupied homes. Housing rehabilitation services may include projects addressing home livability, safety concerns, accessibility upgrades, and/or home weatherization to improve energy efficiency to reduce utility costs. The home repair program serves aging seniors and disabled veterans, increasing the livability of their homes by installing ramps, grab bars, and roll in showers. Learn more at www.habitattucson.org
